The emergence of the Chinese nouveau riche and their pursuit of wellness and a balanced lifestyle has been the driving force behind the growth of the Spa business in China. Held concurrently with the 30th Guangzhou International Beauty & Cosmetic Import-Export Expo, the three-day “All About SPA” Seminar brought together spa experts, trainers, operators and spa product brands, creating a gathering and forum for top professionals in the Chinese spa industry. The objective of this high-calibre event is to elevate the standards of the local spa industry, a fast-evolving sector with huge potential but still in its early stages of development in China.
 
“Global Spa & Wellness Trend” Seminar
Speaker: Dr. Theresa Chew, President of Spa and Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS)
At this seminar, Dr. Theresa Chew, a veteran speaker and expert in Asia’s spa industry shared her knowledge and experience, offering guidelines and advice to people aspiring to enter the industry. Taking Singapore as an example, Dr. Chew analysed the rapid development of the Spa industry, and introduced the “Joint Professional Certificate of Spa and Wellness Service Operations” training programme offered by the Spa and Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS). Dr. Theresa Chew founded Expressions International (S) Pte Ltd in 1990 and the Spa & Wellness Asia Pacific Leaders Roundtable in February 2006. She is Founder & President of SWAS, and a member of the Asia Pacific Spa and Wellness Council in Singapore.
 
“Winning with Retailing” Seminar
Speaker: Ms. Samantha Foster, Managing Director of Spa Source Asia Ltd
Ms Foster, one of Asia’s most experienced spa consultants and a proven spa manager, trainer and retailer, shared her experience in developing retail concept, market analysis, inventory planning, product selection, performance evaluation, sales training and the style of the spa. As an activist in pursuit of betterment of the industry, Samantha was instrumental in the set-up of Spa & Wellness Association Singapore (SWAS), and is the current Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Spa & Wellness Council: a role for which she was named “Spa Personality of the Year” in the 2007 Asia Spa Baccarat Awards.

Spa will continue to share the limelight in thenext edition of the Guangzhou International Beauty & Cosmetic Import-Export Expo – Autumn 2009 (31st edition) to take place from 24-26 September 2009 at the China Import And Export Fair PAZHOU COMPLEX Area B – Guangzhou, China.
 
The organisers are planning a special programme to intensify the learning experience and introduce more spa products and brands on the show floor to keep up with the rapid development of the Spa sector in China.
